Dunston entertain Kendal United at UTS Stadium, Dunston again are still unable to field a First eleven as they still have players missing and players with niggling injuries. The pitch is in slick condition after the poor weather conditions over the last week.

Dunston started poorly in what seemed an after effect of the previous weeks’ games with most of the side playing their third game in 6 days and on 4 minutes a defensive error let in Kendal’s Wilkins who was able to pull a ball back to Bailey who fortunately for Dunston was unable to get power and direction into his shot which went wide. Dunston replied with Briggs getting the better of Towers and putting in a shot across the Kendal goal. On 8 minutes Carney was played in by a long ball forward he pulled a ball back into Wilkins who skewed a shot wide of the target.

A minute later Connerton laid a ball off to Carney who was able to poke a shot past Clark in the Dunston nets for the opening goal to Kendal. Dunston rallied and Bulford twisted and turned in the area before a defensive foot played a ball back to Francis whose shot went over the bar. On 11 Francis ran into the area and poked a shot on target forcing Rowlings to parry, the rebound fell to Francis who smacked it past Rowlings but was prevented from going over the line by Henry whose clearance via the post was eventually cleared from the area. On 16 Briggs won a ball in the Kendal area and pulled back to Bulford who shot just wide of the target.

Two minutes later Williams for Kendal crossed and Carney at the far post headed wide of the near post. On 22, Connerton tried a shot from 30 yards out which Clark collected and 5 minutes later Forbes had a shot from 20 yard which went over the bar. A subdued Dunston showing recent form only in glimpses nearly equalised as Morien received a throw in Turned and  shot just wide of the near post on 34, and then Hodgson headed over from a Francis corner kick. On 40 minutes Morien again let fly with a shot from in the box which was stopped by Rowlings.

Half time Score Dunston 0 Kendal Town 1.

Dunston made 3 changes at half time and settled into regaining their past form, on 50 Thear on as substitute turned and shot from an acute angle into the Kendal net for the equaliser. Dunston now settled and on 55 Wilson deftly chipped the ball over his head on to a Francis run into the box, however the ball just evaded him in front of goal. On 57 Francis dribbled into the area and played a low cross which was deflected by a defender for a corner. 2 minutes later Scott Martindale got in a header from a cross but it was deflected past the post.

On 67 Morien crossed from the right wing and a Thear header went just wide, before Kendal s’ Wilkins had a shot deflected wide by Gilhespy at the other end. Dunston by now were showing as the better side and on 71 minutes Thear smashed a 35 yard shot into the goal area only for a defender to block it and prevent its path into the goal.

A minute later Francis connected on a loose ball and powerfully shot into the Kendal net for Dunstons second goal. On 83 Wilson in the centre of goal 15 yards out received a pass which he flicked up and then turned and produced a great volley into the net past a stranded Rowlings and startled Kendal defence. Kendal still trying replied on 85 when Carney struck a free kick from 20 yards out past Clark and struck the cross bar, the rebound fell to the incoming Hamer who played his hurried shot wide of the target.

On 87, Carney again was unlucky as he struck a shot from point blank range 15 yards out and Clark forced it clear of the goal. As the game approached its final minutes Francis played in a corner which Wilkinson firmly headed on target, Rowlings efforts to prevent a goal were thwarted as the assistant signalled that the ball had crossed the line for 4- 1 to Dunston. Play restarted and the referee blew the final whistle for full time.

After a subdued first half, Dunston rallied in the second to overpower a Kendal side who proved to be good opponents, the revival was led by the midfield performance from Francis, and some slick flicks from Wilson. One again the defence were on par despite having to reorganise again.
