Loss of Discipline, Structure & Game Lost again for Dunston

14th October 2015
Northern League Division 1
Morpeth Town 3
Dunston UTS 0

.
Dunston on their travels again, the 4th away game in a row, to Craik park, Morpeth, to play Morpeth Town. Morpeth have started strong this season following on from their late surge at the end of last season after the strengthened their side. The Morpeth squad has 3 former players, Chris Swailes, Lee Mc Andrew and Michael Chilton. Dunston are looking to get back into a blue streak of form after a poor team performance in Saturdays game at North Shields losing 2-1 and not looking like taking the game from Shields after losing two early goals. Dunston were without the services of Dan Halliday injured and Dale Burrell is suffering from blisters but takes a place on the bench.
.
The start of the game is delayed by 15 minutes due to a crash on the A1 preventing players a, strips and supporters for getting up the A1 past Kinston Park. Morpeth started well immediately on the attack but the Dunston defence repelled their advance as they gradually got into their stride. Morpeth got the first chance with Graydon playing the ball through but Connell collected on 8 minutes, Dale Pearson on 9 received a through ball from Richardson and released a shot which Dryden failed to hold as Morien advanced, Dryden recovered and collected the ball.

.
On 10 an interchange between Michael Pearson and Francis saw Dunston win a corner, which was played into the box and partially cleared to Francis whose shot was blocked, the clearance came out again to Francis whose cross this time was collected by Dryden. On 14 Richardson cross was collected by Dryden at the front post. Dunston were on top and playing well until on 20 minutes Morien was fouled but the referee failed to notice the assistants frantic flagging while Morpeth broke and played a cross into the box which was poorly attended to as the ball fell to Chilton who volleyed home past Connell. 1- 0 to Morpeth despite Dunston’s protests against the referee’s poor decision.
.
On 24, Novak played a free kick into the Dunston area which Martindale did well to clear for a corner. On 27 as Dunston struggled to get back in the game, Chilton played in Taylor whose shot was saved by Connell pushing it out for a corner diving to his right. From the corner Sayer shot from 35 yards out cross goal and wide of the target. On 31, Richardson got in a volleyed shot which was blocked and then won a free kick which went wide of the target by Francis. On 34, a Morpeth corner was played into the Dunston back post, the ball was played back across the Dunston goal and after some Dunston indecision Chilton managed to poke the ball into the net, 2-0 to Morpeth.
.
On 36, the referee again, awarded a free kick for a soft challenge by Hodgson compounded with a caution, Dunston failed to compose themselves and Novak took advantage by blasting a 20 yard free kick shot into Connell’s left hand side of the goal, Connell tried to block but only succeeded in directing the ball into the net, 3-0 to Morpeth and game over. Morpeth fans were even surprised at the score as Dunston had crumbled. In an effort to redeem some grace, Richardson had a shot stopped by Dryden on 37, but Morpeth had further chances as Taylor broke on 40, got into the box and but for a timely sliding challenge by Gilhespy preventing his shot.
.
On 41 Dale Pearson was played clear by Richardson but under challenge poked his 20 yard shot wide of the target. Chilton at the other end had a shot saved by Connell, before Dale Pearson had a cross collected by Dryden. On 44 Rusden played in across which McAndrew was unable to direct on target at the back post.

.
Morpeth 3 Dunston 0 at half time.
.
Dunston introduced Thear and Burrell for Morien and Francis at the break and with his first touch on and immediately after the kick off, Thear missed a golden chance from 8 yards out lifting his shot over the bar. On 47 Smith headed a ball back to Connell, Connell was surprised and wrong footed but recovered to collect the ball and prevent an own goal. On 49, Sayer poked in a shot which Connell collected. On a Dunston break on 50, Thear travelled across the Morpeth box arriving at the goal line he turned and laid a ball back into the box which was cleared.

.
On 53 McAndrew had a shot defected wide of the far post and then on 54, Taylor shot from the edge of the box after McAndrew had crossed, only to see it blocked and cleared. On 59, the referee was again questioned as Thear was fouled twice in a minute on the edge of the box for denying Dunston free kicks. On 60 Taylor was played in on left but h Martindale was on hand to clear. On 64, Smith did well to hold up the ball in the Morpeth area his lay back to Hodgson resulted in a shot wide of the target. On 72 Dale Pearson fed into the box by Thear and his shot was saved by Dryden.
.
In the 75 minute a Graydon free kick into the back post was just too strong for Sayer who was unable to convert. On 76, McAndrew on the left played a low cross into the box, after a clever step over the ball fell to Taggert whose shot was stopped by Connell. On 78, Smith tried a turn and volley which Dryden stopped.
.
The game continued as both sides tired but another referee decision to caution Michael Pearson on 85 minutes for a collision between players trying to turn on the halfway line resulted in Pearson leaving the field for 2 cautionable offences!!!, the referee was further embarrassed as she tried to impose the caution on Fisher who had just came on a substitute.
.
The game proceeded to a close and a 3-0 victory to Morpeth.
.
Another case of Dunston losing their composure, discipline and structure causing them to lose the game, the side lacked leadership after 25 minutes and the players need to look at themselves to get the team out of a rut and to do it quickly as results see them dropping down the league.
.
Dunston’s Man of the Match: Adam Wilkinson – although not a great performance, Adam put in a shift while others did not perform.
.
Morpeth Town: Dryden, Forster, Novak, Sayer, Hall, Hiftle, Taylor (Taggert 65), Rushden (Fry 75) Carr, Chilton (Nellis 82) McAndrew. Subs not used: Anderson, Swailes.
