Morien hat-trick too good for Norton & Stockton

28th November 2015
EBAC Northern League Div. 1
Dunston UTS 4

Norton & Stockton 1
Att, 135
.
Dunston returned to the UTS Stadium for the first time in November for their league fixture against Norton & Stockton whom Dunston have beaten twice, once in the League cup 5-0 and in the League 1-0, within that period. Dunston are still struggling with player availability through injuries and holidays but are still able to field a good strength side. Norton are fielding a side with many new names from their home recent games. The pitch although wet looks in good condition although players were slipping during the warm up.
.
The game started cautiously as both sides battled the pitch for safety and security of footing while maintaining respect for the opposition, however it was Dunston who drew first blood as Richardson was played in behind the Norton defence on 8 minutes, he got to the by-line and his low cross into the goal area found Morien on hand to tap home from 2 yards out. Norton replied with Brown unleashing a 20 yard shot which Clark saved diving to his left.

.
On 12, Burrell played in Morien who laid off to Richardson but the Norton defence rallied and cleared the danger. Disaster struck for Dunston on 16, as Francis wide on the right was forced to play back to Clark, only to see his pass powerfully slide across Clark freeing Charmey with an easy route unchallenged and play the ball into the net for the equaliser.
.
Dunston rallied and Shaw broke on the left wing and his pass into the found Morien who shot wide of the target. On 20, Collantine on the Norton left wing shot which went across the Dunston goal and wide. On 22, Morien broke through the Norton defence, with the goalkeeper advancing, he laid the ball off to Richardson whose attempt on target was deflected by Thackery who was well outside his area and the ball went to safety. On 25 Richardson was substituted after injuring himself while slipping on the wet surface, introducing Bowey to midfield with Gary Shaw pushing up to the forward line.
.
On 31 Shaw crossed and Thackery punched clear as Morien approached. Norton were trying to stay in the game and on 36 Elgie turned on the edge of the box and shot wide of the Dunston goal, before Shaw broke clear of the Norton defence and into the box were he stumbled after a definite push by the challenging defender, but not given by the referee, and the ball was cleared. On 38 Burrell tried a chip shot which Thackery managed to get around the post, and again on 41, Burrell had a shot on target with the goal keeper off his line, which struck Morien and went out for a goal kick. A minute later Halliday had a 25 yard shot which went wide of the near post. Just on half time Gary Shaw played in a cross which was too long for the advancing Dunston players.
.
Half time score 1-1
.
Norton got the first chance of the second half as Martin headed over the bar from a Brown cross on 48 minutes. Five minutes later a Norton defender passed back to Thackery who slipped and saw the ball go just past his near post. After a short period of Norton pressure which was controlled by a diligent Dunston defence and Clark who saved a Collantine shot on 55, Dunston replied with Francis playing a ball into Morien, unfortunately it was too strong and the Norton defence cleared the chance. On 59 Bowey had 2 chances from inside the box the first was partially cleared and the second was saved well by Thackery.
.
Dunston took the lead on 64 when Thackery failed to clear a Gary Shaw free kick from the right wing, the ball fell into a packed goal mouth and Morien was on hand to smash it home from 2 yards, two minutes later Shaw again played in a low cross which evaded all the Dunson attacking players and went across the field. On 69 Morien shot straight at Thackery stationed on his near post and then a minute later Morien had another shot deflected by a defender for a corner. On 74 Francis crossed and the ball was played out for a corner before Morien got his third goal on 79 as he picked up a loose ball 45 yards out, he advanced into the Norton box and shot home, 3 -1 to Dunston.
.
Norton were thwarted on 81 as Clark dis well to punch clear under a heavy challenge from Mulligan. Dunston were still pushing on and on 82 Francis saw a shot off the outside of his foot pushed clear by Thackery. On 86 Shaw got his reward for a good game as he was played into the Norton box and fired home a shot from 15 yards out. Just before full time Morien almost got his fourth from 2 yards out but Thackery again somehow scrambled it clear and the Pearson almost made it 5 for Dunston as he did well to control a cross from Shaw in the box before shooting just wide of the far post.
.
Final Score: Dunston UTS 4 Norton & Stockton 1
 .
Dunston thoroughly deserved this victory after mastering the conditions, although a strong Norton side did not make it easy. Dunston controlled most of the game and Clark was only called into action for a few times when the stern Dunston defence lapsed. The introduction of the Bowey for the injured Steven Richardson was a fortunate and good change as his experience balanced the Dunston midfield. The goals were well taken by Morien and Shaw to establish the victory.
 .
Dunston’s Man of the Match: Malky Morien – another 3 goals to his tally he is establishing himself as a striker in this Dunston side who are all starting to work hard for the good of the team. Malky’s partnership initially with Richardson was producing opportunities against the opposition, and later his role leading the line with the assistance of Gary Shaw saw some promising moves and when chances came he was not shy in forcing the ball into the net.
