Northern League Division One
Dunston UTS 3
Bedlington Terriers 0
Attendance 115

Dunston welcomed Bedlington to the Dunston UTS Stadium for the EBAC Northern League game. Bedlington have struggled this season and are currently playing to get out of the relegation zone of the First Division, but gained a creditable draw against North Shields on Saturday while a jaded Dunston were defeated by West Allotment Celtic. Manager Billy Irwin has again got injury problems and is forced to reshuffle his team & defence again as Scott Martindale returns from suspension but Stephen Harrison is unavailable. However on paper the side does show promise for an attacking game.

.
Dunston got off to a perfect start as Morien received a ball on the edge of the box, he quickly made space and shot past a stranded Staples in the Bedlington goal, 1- 0 to Dunston. A Morien free kick on 3 minutes was on target and had to be pushed clear by Staples, Bedlington replied with a Stoneman header going over the bar from a Nellis corner. Dunston continued to press and on 15, Morien was played in by a Richardson cross field ball but was unable to take control and lost possession on the edge of the box.

.
The Dunston pitch was getting cut up making the ball take some awkward bounces and both teams lost possession due to poor control. On 17, Stephenson had a shot which bounced awkwardly in front of Clark whose body was positioned in the correct line and rebound was easily collected by Clark. Plat flowed from box to box as both defences appeared to have the upper hand until the 30th minute when a Shaw free kick was played out by the defence to Francis whose first time 25 yard shot went wide of the target.
.
On 35, a Wright cross had to be collected by Clark to alleviate the danger. Dunston replied on 37 as a low Morien shot was blocked and cleared. Dunston still pushed on and on 41 Guerin laid a ball off to Francis who shot over the bar. Bedlington immediately set up a breakaway move and Wright ended by shooting harmlessly across the Dunston goal. Just on half time Morien had a free kick go just wide of the near post and Richardson received a poor clearance by Wells who was out of his goal area, Richardson’s chipped 35 yard shot went over the empty goal.
.
Half Time Dunston 1 Bedlington Terriers 0

Dunson almost scored in the first minute of the second half as Guerin turned and shot on target and the deflection rebound to Richardson who crossed into the back post where the ball was cleared. On 48, Wilkinson headed a chance which Staples collected. Bedlington replied with a free kick taken by Dummett into the box which was cleared. A free kick by Errington was played into and fortunately across the Dunston goal on 51. On 58 as Bedlington pressed hard for an equaliser a ball was played into Walton who redirected the ball with a header from 5 yards, which was saved one handed by Clark, the ball was cleared down field to Fisher who broke down the left wing and applied a cross low into the area but Staples cleared before Richardson and Morien could pounce.

.
On 64 Guerin played a deep cross into the back post for a Morien header which was cleared, before a Francis free kick directed at Wilkinson was just too high and the chance was lost. On 75, Morien broke on the right and crossed into the area were the covering Dummett unfortunately for Bedlington directed the ball into the bottom corner of the near the front post, while the free Pearson was waiting to pounce at the back post. 2-0 to Dunston.
.
On 81, Bedlington got another chance as Hudson attacked on the left and played in a low cross for Walton, Walton could not make a connection as Clark closed in, Walton recollected his whereabouts and played in another cross but this time Clark was able to collect. On 84, a Francis 18 yard shot was deflected clear for a corner, from the corner taken by Shaw, Guerin was able to apply a header past the defenders on the line for Dunston’s third goal.
.
With his appetite for a goal not sated Francis had a 15 yard shot deflected by goalkeeper Staples over the bar, and again on 88 minutes a Francis shot went over the bar. Just on Full time substitute josh Clark on for Richardson saw his shot deflected into the fortunate arms of Staples at the front post.
.
Final Score: Dunston 3 Bedlington Terriers 0
.
Dunston had to battle to stay in front in this game against a fiery and gritty Bedlington midfield and defence. They got their rewards in the last 15 minutes but only a fine save by Andy Clark prevented the equaliser. This was a gritty performance on a pitch which made control and passes difficult.
.
Dunston’s Man of the Match : Matty Fisher: Matty put in a 110% performance in midfield where prisoners were not being taken, despite this Matty was still able to prompt his team forward ably a ssisted by the flair of Alex Francis. Once again Andy Clark deserves a mention for the save preventing a certain equaliser by Walcott of Bedlington.
