FA Vase R5 Replay
Dunston UTS 2
Ashford United 3
Attendance 290
.
Dunston welcomed Ashford United to the Dunston UTS stadium for a replay of the 5th Round FA Vase tie after both sides were unable to gain a victory last Saturday 330 miles south in Kent. Dunston pitch was playable but only after a drying wind helped stiffen the surface after a 2 month period of rain, so with the pitch soft in places the game was likely to depend on fitness and strength of the players.
.
Dunston were forced to make one change to their starting line-up due to the injury in the first game to Dan Halliday. Ashford also made one change with Lye replacing Dalton in midfield.
.
Dunston took advantage of the pitch conditions in the first have and took a handy 2–0 lead into the second half with goals by Richardson and Morien, and could have increased that lead both just before half time and in the 15 minute period after half time. After the hour Ashford scored a good goal with a Welford header and they also could have got an equaliser in a busy 10 minute spell. On 69 minutes disaster struck for Dunston as Goddard was sent off, Ashford lifted their spirit and pushed for an equaliser although Dunston had a chance on 80 minutes to increase their lead.
.
As the game approached 90 minutes Ashford got the equaliser which was a cruel deflection past Clark, but not even Ashford could have foretold the third Ashford goal in the 4th minute of added time as the ball was played deep into the Dunston far post and Dunston stopped as the ball went out of play, the incoming Welford hooked the ball back into play which hit the back running Da Smith and went into the net. Despite the Dunston appeals for justice the goal stood and Dunstons FA vase dream was over as the referee blew the final whistle on the restart.

.
The game started with both side vying for possession of midfield in the soft playing conditions and Ashford got the first chance on 3 minutes as Palmer turned on the edge of the box and shot just wide of the post slightly deflected by the diving Connell for a corner. Dunston were immediately on the offensive as Richardson won a ball on the left wing, playing it into Guerin whose shot was collected by Kamurasi. Ashford replied with a Lye header from a Cuthbert cross which went wide of the near post. On 7 Francis played into Morien who shot went straight at Kamurasi. On 9 minutes the game changed for Dunston as Wilkinson chased a ball and suffered a hamstring injury but played a ball back to Connell, Connell was then fouled by Booth as he tried to clear his lines.
.
Wilkinson went off replaced by Josh Clark with Burrell filling in at the back. Connell continued for a further 10 minutes in serious pain before being replaced by Andy Clark. The game had settled as Ashford got used to the conditions and Dunston adjusted their play to match the changes and on 23 Booth for Ashford blasted a shot which Gilhespy headed clear. On 24 Morien was played into the box but his attempted shot was blocked by Cuthbert. A minute later Morien was again played in by Richardson but dithered on the edge of the box and Cuthbert cleared for a corner, from the corner taken by Francis, Guerin applied a header which Kamurasi saved. Dunston on 26 took the lead after this brief spell of pressure as Francis played a ball through to Richardson who shot first time past Kamurasi and into the net.
.
Ashford replied on 28 as Hassan got in on the left and shot low, Clark pulled off a good save and collected the ball at full stretch. The game again settled as both teams battled in midfield, however on 40 minutes Morien won the ball after chasing along the 18 yard box, his shot was low and was slightly deflected past Kamurasi and into the net for 2 – 0 to Dunston. Ashford replied and Gilhespy again had to clear his line as Welford poked a shot on target. Dunston could have gone further ahead as Richardson was played into the box but his shot went just wide of the far post on 45. In the 4th minute of added time Richardson received another through ball side stepped his marker but shot over the bar.

Dunston started strong after the break and on 47, Francis had a shot pushed out for a corner bt Kamurasi, from the corner the ball came out to Burrell who shot over the bar. On 51, Dunston again almost increased their lead as Richardson chased a long high ball and released a chipped shot over Kamurasi but also just wide of the post. On 53 Richardson again was played in by Morien but shot over the bar. Ashford were grafting and almost got their first as Clark was unable to hold a cross by Phillips and Palmer hit a shot against the foot of the post and the ball rebounded clear. Richardson was still going strong and again broke into the box but was thwarted by a Cuthbert challenge.
.
On 61 Welford was on hand in the 6 yard box as a cross from the right came in and his header gave Clark no chance and the score was 2-1 to Dunston. Ashford buoyed by the goal  had another chance as Phillips played in a free kick but Clark claimed it well, on 65 Fagg on as substitute  for Hassan shot over the bar from 25 yards and the Clark prevented the equaliser by coming out at the feet of Welford to claim the ball on 66 minutes. Dunston rallied and Morien put a cross just over the Ashford cross bar, before being replaced by Goddard on 68 minutes. Within a minute Goddard was involved in a challenge which Lye reacted to and Goddard after being pushed kicked out at the player and was dismissed, this was a real boost for Ashford in their efforts to get back into the game.

.
On 80 minutes Richardson chased another long ball but Kamurasi got there first and his clearance hit Richardson but was cleared before Richardson could recover. On 86, Ashford were beginning to force Dunston back and pushed hard for the equaliser, Lye tried a shot from 30 yards over the bar, before a Cuthbert cross was claimed high by Clark as Palmer challenged. On 90 minutes Ashford desperately pushed on and Phillips tried a shot from 25 yards which took a deflection past Clark and into the corner of the net for the equaliser.  Ashford continued to apply pressure and in the 94th minute a cross was played into the Dunston area, Clark watched as the ball went past his far post and out of play, however Welford hooked the ball back into play and Smith was unfortunate to deflect the ball into his own goal, despite pleas to the officials the goal stood and Dunston were beaten and out of the FA Vase.
