Dunston entertain fellow EBAC Northern League side
Durham City to the Dunston UTS Stadium for both sides second encounters in the
2014/15 FA Cup season. Both teams beat fellow Northern League teams in the
previous round and both sides have started their league season in a reasonable
fashion, Durham have 10 pts from 5 games as opposed to Dunstons 9 pts. as a form
guide both teams have encountered Jarrow Roofing and both winning and West
Auckland which Dunston won 2-1 and Durham lost 4-0.
Dunston welcome back Steven
Harrison after his honeymoon trip but are without Jonny Wightman and
Steven Shaw, and manager Billy Irwin has the remainder of his squad available
for selection. Durham Manager is Ian Chandler, formerly of Whitley. Bay, and
his squad is in a rebuilding programme after most of last seasons players left
towards the end of the season.
In
the 3rd min a ball was played into the Durham penalty area, the goalkeeper
Young, was unable to Collect and Nicky Kane got a shot in which was cleared off
the line. Dunston gradually settling into the game and controlling midfield
against a young looking Durham side. in the 10th minute a long throw from
Halliday into the area fell to Scott Fenwick who shot from 18 yards into the
bottom corner of the net for 1-0 to Dunston.
Durham retaliated and a cross from
Noble went across the Dunston Goal and clear of the far post. 3 minutes later
Hodgson combined with Fenwick and the resulting shot was blocked and cleared, a
minute later Halliday put in a cross which fell to Bulford but the alert and
brave Young saved at Bulfords feet as he was shooting, receiving a bang on his
head for his rewards. On 17, Fenwick shot on angle and again Young saved.
5 minutes later Kane played the ball on to Halliday who crossed to Fenwick at
the back post, Fenwick however was just unable to convert a promising move.
On
25, Burrell advancing from defence shot over the bar, and. Minutes later
Burrell again put in across which evaded all and just went past the back post.
Dunston were pushing on for their second goal and on 29 Kane tried a long range
effort which was just wide of the far post. On 32, a long throw from Stoker was
flicked on by Purewal but the Dunston defence blocked and cleared the ball. 3
minutes later, Fenwick pulled the ball back to Bulford at the back post,
Bulford rifled a shot into the net for Dunstons second goal. Dunston were in clear
control of the game and dictating the play. On 43, a Burrell free kick, was
played up to Coulson who headed just wide of the net.
Half
Time score 2-0
The
second half started as the first with Dunston still dictating play in midfield,
on 50 Durhams Hope played off to Lawrence who shot wide from 18 yards.
Dunston were applying pressure on the Durham area but were unable to get a
clear shot in, on 57, Bulford turned well on the edge of the box and shot just
over the bar, a minute later Connell was called into action to clear for a
corner, as substitute Baitey shot from 25 yards out. On 59 another throw in
from Stoker to Purewal in the box was cleared.
After 62, following a poorly
judged back header from Purewal to Young was cut out by Bulford, but his rushed
shot on the turn went across the goal and past the far post. On 63 Gary Ormston
cleared the Dunston line after a free kick taken by Hotchkiss. On 67
another Halliday long throw into the box reached Fenwick who had the simple
task of flicking the ball inside the near post for Dunstons third. 5 minutes
later Bulford beat his marker on the left wing and crossed to Burrell on the
right side of the box , Burrell's cross was returned to Bulford whose
shot went wide of the target from 18 yards.
On 74, Davis took a Durham free
kick and Coulson headed clear, the game settled into a mid field encounter with
both sides introducing fresh legs. On 85, Gary Shaw put in a cross which found
Bulford whose header was blocked and right on time Shaw again advanced into the
box but a last minute challenge by Purewal prevented a shot going in.

Summery:- Dunston
played very well and their good team performance prevented all but a few
opportunities from the young Durham side ensuring that Dunston progressed into
the next round of the FA cup away to Marske on 13 September 2014.
Dunston Man of the Match: Andy Bulford, after being
rested for the past few games Andy was full of running and produced major
problems alongside the prolific goal scoring of Scott Fenwick. as previously
stated it was a good team performance with Halliday and Dixon again turning in
impressive contributions.
