Durham Challenge Cup 1st Round
Dunston UTS 2

Washington 5
.
Dunston met Washington in the Durham F A County Challenge Cup, Washington are playing well in the second division of the EBAC league and have a side which could hold its own in the first division, meanwhile Dunston are struggling to get a side out because of injuries and illness made worse after losing 4 players to other clubs in the last two weeks.
.
One new signing for Dunston is Gareth Williams a very experienced player with performances at Blyth Spartans and Whitley Bay.
.
Dunston started well and went ahead on 5 minutes as Bulford at the back post shot home from a Nicky Kane flick to a Wightman corner, Washington fought back and put Dunston defence under pressure. On 25 came an equaliser as McArdle went unchallenged to meet a cross and blasted a shot past Connell. Within 2 minutes Dunston regained the lead as Bulford was fouled in the penalty area and Scott Fenwick shot home confidently. The lead was retained for only 8 minutes as Fairley shot home from 12 yards out after Halliday had headed clear a cross from Winn. Dunston created more chances before half time but to no avail.
.
Half time score: 2 --‐ 2
.
Dunston started the second half and created chances for, Coulson, and two for Fenwick but it was Washington who got the goal as Fairley ran half the length of the pitch his first shot was blocked but he made no mistake with the second planting in at the back post on 52 minutes. Dunston tried to recover but it was not to be their night as on 60 minutes Winn was played through and the on rushing Connell caught his legs in attempting to get the ball, Connell was sent off and Winn hammered his penalty kick homewards, substitute keeper Clark, on for Kane, got a hand to it but could not stop.
.
Now with 10 men Dunston still tried but the result was now becoming obvious and on 83, Washington pushed home their advantage as Hall curled a shot into the top corner of the far post for the fifth goal against Dunston, after Gilhespy had headed an effort from Fairley off the goal line.
.
Full time score: Dunston 2 Washington 5
.
A disheveled Dunston performance was mastered by a good Washinton side who punished Dunston by making the most from the Dunston side errors. Washington on this performance will not be in the second division long.
.
Dunston Man of the Match: Once again no outstanding performances over the whole game when the side were looking for a shining light.
