Dunston were in league action again travelling down to North Yorkshire to play Guisborough another league title contenders. As the battle for league winners continues between Shildon, Guisborough and North Shields Dunston still have to play FA Vase finalists North Shields in the run in.

Guisborough hit a set back this week after a defeat at Marske who also still have an outside chance of league honours, so today's game is very important for the league platings. Dunston are back to full strength with Dixon and Harrison available for selection and no major injuries collected in the midweek defeat to Shildon in the League Cup semi final.


Guisborough started strong and won a corner taken by McPhillips which was cleared by Clark, on 4 minutes May played a loose defensive ball across the Area which Ormston just failed to get the ball right in front of the goal, on 6 Earl had a shot which the Dunston defence did well to block before Risbrough attacked the Dunston defence and shot which Clark saved. On 17 Bulford had a strike at goal from 40 yards out over the advanced keeper and just over the cross bar.

On 21 Liddle played into Bytheway whose shot was blocked by Halliday.On 22 McAndrew won a corner for Dunston which was cleared, 4 minutes later Bulfoird got in shot from 12 yards out which went just over the bar. On 34 Earl just failed to connect with a deep cross to the Dunston back post, 2 minutes later Bytheway hit the post and clear from 6 yards out, a minute later Risbrough had a shot from 30 yards which went high over the bar.

Dunston replied on 38 as McAndrew crossed towards Bulford but it was cleared. On 42 Earl shot and Clark first had to Block it before it was cleared.

Dunston started the second half with Cattanach coming on as substitute for the injured Coulson in defence and were immediately on the attack winning a corner, the corner taken by Halliday was met by Ormston whose header went powerfully into the net past the despairing defenders. 1‐0 to Dunston on 47, a minute later Burrell put in a shot which the keeper Liversedge saved. 4 minutes later Bulford had a shot which was cleared off the line by Martin, On 54 Gell replied for Gisborough but it went well wide of the target.


Bytheway on 55 had a shot from 12 yards out which Clark pushed wide from the base of his right hand post. Guisborough were back in the game on 57 as a corner kick by McWilliam found McPhillips unmarked in the six yard box and he poked a shot into the roof of the net for the equaliser. On 59 Bytheway beat Halliday and shot wide of the far post. On 63 Clark parried an Earl shot before collecting the loose ball.

On 63 Dunston lost there other centre half Gilhespy who was replaced by Dan Smith with Burrell moving from midfield into the back four. On 67 Bulford tried an opportunist strike after picking the ball up 30 yards out, but it went wide of the target. On 69 good build up play by Dunston as Harrison, Ormston and McAndrew combined to get the ball to Bulford whose attempt to score was missed as the ball went wide.

On 71 a deep cross by Martin was cut out by Clark. On 73, Hodgson shot wide from 25 yards out. On 76 the Guisborgh forwards dithered in the box allowing the defence to clear their area.

On 80, Bytheway had a shot saved by Clark at the near post. On 83 Earl had a shot from 18 yards out which struck the bar and bounced clear of the area. With 5 minutes to go Earl a yard off side was played into the Dunston area with only Clark to beat , Clark blocked the initial shot but the ball bounced into Earls run and he poked it into the Dunston net for 2‐1 to Guisborough.

On 89 minutes Bytheway way also looking slightly offside got into the box and was forced wide of the goal by Clark, but a sideway crossball found substitute Round who shot home for Guisboroughs 3rd goal.

Dunston suffered from not scoring a second goal in a period of domination early in the second half allowing a smooth flowing attacking side like Guisborough the opportunities to attack a weakened Dunston defence. To their credit Guisborough wanted and got their deserved victory but it could have been so different.

Dunston's Man of the Match: Andy Clark made some good saves to keep Dunston in the game until the last five minutes when he had a disrupted defence in front of him.
