Beaten 4-1 at SRCA

EBAC Northern League Division
15th March 2016
Sunderland RCA 4

Dunston UTS 1

Dunston travelled again, this time south down the A19 to play a league game against Sunderland RCA on a misty wet an thoroughly miserable night .

The game started with both sides finding their feet on the wet pitch, and as early as 3 minutes RCA's Cummings was injured as he challenged/fouled Francis on the half way line, the injury forced Cummings to leave the pitch resulting in an early substitution an a reshuffle in their defence.

Dunston had the first chance on goal, after 10, as Fisher had a 20 yard shot saved. Two minutes later a Luccock low cross went out for a corner, from the corner Guerin deflected the ball just wide of the near post, on 14, Guerin picked up a loose defensive pass, but his attempt to round the goalkeeper was foiled.

RCA replied with a poor directed header by Jennings. A minute later Thear played a through ball playing in Luccocks but the ball skidded through to Harkess. On 21,Jennings was played through and only an alert Clark who closed down the space and deflected a shot out for a corner, within a minute an RCA attack near the corner flag drew 3 Dunston defenders out of position, enabling Davis to cross to an unmarked Wrightson to head back across goal and into the corner of the net for the opening goal.

Dunston were forced into action and Francis played through a ball to Richardson whose ground shot was collected by Harkess. Two minutes later ran into the box and played a square ball to Richardson who was immediately challenged from behind by Buchanan for a penalty and the offender sent off. Richardson struck the penalty firmly home and Dunston were level 1-1. On 33, a Luccock cross come shot to the far post just went wide.

Five minutes later Dunston were behind again as Jennings shot home from the edge of the box after Larkin controlled a cross into the middle and the ball fell to Jennings. 2-1 to RCA. Dunston had two chances to equalise before the halftime whistle, but Richardson's header from a Thear cross went wide and then Francis was played in by Guerin only for his shot to go wide of the far post.

Liddle was substituted at half time due to an injury and the Dunston defence had to be reshuffled with Gilhespy moving to left back and Martindale going into the centre of defence. Dunston got an early opportunity as on 48, as Richardson won a ball on the right and played in a cross to Francis whose shot rebounded off Harkess to Francis whose second attempt went wide. Sunderland replied on 51 and a trip by Martindale resulted in a caution and a free kick on the edge of the area. The free kick was cleared and in Dunston 's next attack saw a Wilkinson shot from 7 yards out blocked by a defender.

On 57, Richardson was fed into the area, his turn and shot went wide of the far post. On 70, a defensive error and a poor challenge by Wilkinson in the box on Wightman resulted in a caution and a penalty which Larkin scored sending Clark in the wrong direction. A headed effort from Wilkinson went over the bar before Larkin was played in clear on goal on 74, only to shoot well wide of the target. On 80, an assistants flag across a chest signified a penalty far what could only be assumed for hand ball against a Dunston player and Larkin this time shot to the opposite side of the goal and although Clark this time went the right way he was unable to prevent another goal and 4-1 to 10 man RCA.

In the remaining 10 minutes the Dunston side lacked the effort to try and recover and only a good Clark save from a Callen shot on 85 minutes prevented a further goal against his side.

Dunston Man of the Match: Andy Clark -this was a game that Dunston again did not have the fight to beat a 10 man team producing another lack-lustre display which was not enjoyed by the management, committee and sodden supporters, the only credits in the game were the saves again by a fairly solid goalkeeping display against a Sunderland RCA side who turned in a very creditable performance for a ten man team for over half of the game and should be held up as a good example.

Sunderland RCA: Harkess, Davis, McNab (Cook 87), Buchanan, Cummings (Richardson 7), Noble, Callen, Proctor, Larkin, Jennings (Pounder 65), Wightman. Sub not used: Charlton.

Dunston UTS: Clark, Pearson, Liddle (Martindale 45), Fisher , Wilkinson, Gilhespy, Luccock, Francis, Richardson (Clark J 85), Guerin, Thear (Morien 65) Subs not used: Connell, Harrison.
